Managed Care
Under certain limited conditions, Managed Care Plans, including Medicare Advantage plans may pay for some or all of the nursing home costs for beneficiaries who require skilled nursing or rehabilitation services.
Managed Care Plans, like HMO’s and PPO’s require that you use the doctors, hospitals and other health care providers who participate in the plan’s networks in return for more comprehensive coverage. Medicare Advantage plans typically offer extra benefits such as vision, dental, wellness and/or prescription drug plans. Plans can charge different co-payments, coinsurance and deductibles, so it is important to check with any plan you have to determine actual benefit coverage amounts.
Many plans may also require a hospital stay and have pre-certification requirements. It is very important to check with each facility you may be considering to ensure your particular insurance will cover your stay. The discharge planner or social worker at the acute care hospital can also help determine your post-hospital care benefits.
