Amberwood Care Centre - Rockford, IL

Amberwood recently hosted a FREE seminar, open to the public, on the National Alzheimer's Project Act or NAPA.  The presentation was given by Dr. Malgorzata Bach from the Brain Center at Rockford Memorial Hospital.  Dr. Bach stressed that, " It is important to stay up to date with what the government is doing about this disease... and try to stay connected with lots of networking and human interaction... going to support groups is always good".  She went on to discuss the new law and the economic crisis that this escalating disease will lead to. With 20 members of the community in attendance, Dr. Bach also answered questions, as did Amberwood's Administrator, Julie Logan. Several of the questions that were asked, pertained to "slowing down" the disease's process. Dr. Bach covered several current medications and discussed the important role of human interaction. 
   "This (NAPA) is a very interesting topic right now," said Logan, "the ever growing Alzheimer's population and the effects it will have on our country are finally be dealt with head on.  Amberwood has long been a community resource for Alzheimer's by offering information, care, support groups and now our Caregiver Connections program.  The crisis will affect everyone in some way and we hope to have them all better prepared."  As the guests were leaving, one attendee commented that "This was very informative... I am in the early stages of Alzheimer's myself and it was great to learn the facts about this disease and not just how to deal with it.  I learned a lot!"
